How to Write About Your Clients in Blog Posts

How to write about your clients in your blog posts to make them love you while you attract new clients

Need help writing portfolio blog posts? Can’t seem to find the right words to describe your client’s wedding or session? Here’s a helpful guide to writing about your clients!

In addition to writing awesome blog posts about your clients, this guide will help those posts get found on Google.

In order for our blog posts to be found on search platforms such as Google, it’s recommended that each post have at least 300 words. This might be easy if you’re writing educational content with tips and tricks, but it’s a bit harder when you’re writing the content for portfolio sessions. We obviously love our clients and want to show off our work, but what do we talk about? This is the guide for how to hit the 300 word mark on different types of portfolio sessions!

P.S. Using your client questionnaires is a great way to write meaningful blog posts for each of your clients. If you don’t have questionnaires, you can get mine here! They’re a great way to improve your client experience and make your life way easier!

How to Write About Senior Sessions

When writing a blog post about a senior session, focus your post on the session itself as well as the senior’s future plans. Here are a few topics to write about:

  • Explain what happened throughout the session. Where did you go? What was the weather or light like? Did anything eventful happen?
  • What was your favorite part of the session?
  • What was your senior like during the session? Did they laugh the whole time, did they come up with their own poses, did they talk to you a lot? What was your experience with them?
  • Use your senior questionnaire to fill in more information. Where did they go to school? What was their favorite subject or major? What are they hoping to do after graduation?

Talk about how fun the session was and how excited you are for them! Create FOMO with other seniors and get them to want to book you.

How to Write About Engagement Sessions

When writing a blog post about an engagement session, focus your post on the session itself as well as the couple. Here are a few topics to write about:

  • Explain what happened throughout the session. Where did you go? What was the weather or light like? Did anything eventful happen?
  • Talk about the location. How did you pick it? What was it like? Is it special to the couple?
  • What was your favorite part of the session?
  • What was your couple like during the session? Were they super cuddly, did they laugh the whole time, were they natural in front of the camera together? What was your experience with them?
  • Use your client questionnaire to fill in more information. Where did they meet? How long have they been together? What was the proposal like? What are their favorite things to do? How is wedding planning going? Are you their wedding photographer?

Talk about how the session went, how you helped them prepare for it, and how excited you are for them! Make potential couples who are reading this feel like you’re there for them and will help them in any way they need.

How to Write About Weddings

When writing a blog post about a wedding, there is a lot you can talk about. Focus on the day, the couple, and the vendors. Here are a few topics to write about:

  • Explain what happened throughout the day. What was the weather or light like? Did anything eventful happen? What were some special moments?
  • What was your favorite part of the day?
  • How was your couple throughout the day? Were they nervous, did they laugh the whole time, did they dance all night? What was your experience with them?
  • What was the venue like? Where was it, how was it decorated, how was it used for the wedding, and what were some special details? Describe special details and the wedding colors?
  • What was it like working with all the other vendors? What were some special details from them? I include a list of all the vendors and links to their websites at the end of the writing before all the photos so people can find them.
  • Use your client questionnaire to fill in more information. How was wedding planning? What were they most excited for on their big day? What surprises were they looking forward to? Where are they going on their honeymoon?

Talk about the events and details of the day, your favorite parts, and your experience with the couple, the guests, and the other vendors. Make potential couples who are reading this feel like you’re a big part of your day and notice (and photograph) the small details.

Other Tips for Hitting the Word Count

If you’re still having a bit of trouble writing all of this, try a voice recording right after your session. When you’re in the car or on your way home, talk into your phone about the events of the day, your emotions, and small details you think you might forget. You can transcribe the recording using Otter.ai or a similar program and edit it instead. Additionally you could use this time to create an Instagram story about how the day went, and you can look back at the story to find your wording.

Instead of waiting months to write the content, you should try to write it within a week of the event, even if you’re not publishing the blog post until after then. Within the first 24 hours is best, so the emotions and details are still fresh in your mind.

Lastly, if you still feel like you’re having a lot of trouble, you can always hire a writer for your blog and have them hit the word count for you. You can talk into your phone about the experience, then send it to them to turn into a 300 word blog post. Sit down, answer each of the questions above one by one, then send it off.
