I love attending styled shoots and editorials. Not only do I get the freedom to be creative and have fun with my craft, but I get to meet other local vendors and photographers and create together. It’s a fantastic way to strengthen our community and create some lasting relationships.

Each year I try to buy tickets to a few styled shoots that are put on by others. Sometimes they’re set up by other photographers, and sometimes they’re set up by design companies who want to show off what they can do. When I attend these, there are usually several other photographers taking pictures at the same time as me. They usually have several different setups and lots of contributing vendors. This year I attended three of these, and each were completely different and encompassed three different parts of my brand: intimate weddings, luxury weddings, and fun sessions.

In addition to these paid styled shoots, I set up my own editorial sessions so I can push my creativity and create things just for me. This year I started two new projects that I will continue into future years. They both involve models wear clothes from my client closet in locations around the Shenandoah Valley. The first is an Avatar the Last Airbender inspired series in which models are part of the different elements. The second is a Greek mythology inspired series in which models are each of the big gods and goddesses. These are two of my favorite things in the world, and it’s incredibly special to me to start to bring them into my photography.

Lastly, I am occasionally asked to be a photographer for a special event where I can give back to my community. Sometimes this is in the form of styled shoots for particular vendors or venues, or sometimes it’s for a program. This year I was part of one giveback program for local seniors.
