Dolly Sods Vow Renewal | Ashley & Dustin

10/10/20 has been the most popular wedding date of the entire year and we got to spend the day in the best way possible: celebrating Ashley and Dustin’s thirteen years of marriage at their vow renewal. We spent the day at the Dolly Sods Wilderness Area in West Virginia. They dressed up in their wedding wear, wrote personal vows in vow books, and brought a pastor from their church to officiate a vow renewal ceremony.

The West Virginia foliage made for the most beautiful drive I have ever made in my entire life. As we drove up there, the clouds threatened a rain storm and by the time we got to the top it was misting. Despite the rain, nothing was stopping Ashley and Dustin from this special moment.

I got out the clear umbrellas that I keep in my car and we started a short hike towards the rocks. We climbed around a little bit to find the perfect spot. We found a private rock outcropping for the ceremony and it all began.

Andrew, their pastor, made it completely personal to them; they exchanged rings, said their personal vows, and talked about their thirteen years together. Their vows were super heartfelt and they also talked about their daughter and their amazing life together.

It rained the entire time but our happiness couldn’t be brought down. Andrew left to get out of the rain so Ashley, Dustin, and I spent the next hour adventuring around the area. The clouds began to break and the ridges started to appear, making an even more beautiful scene. The seasonal colors were bountiful and it was truly one of the most scenic places I have ever been. We twirled around the rock outcroppings, explored the fire red bushes, and eventually just embraced the rain and the cold.

Ashley and Dustin were incredibly happy while celebrating their thirteen years of marriage, happy adventures, and watching their daughter grow up. It was such an honor to capture their ceremony and heartfelt vows.

I am so thankful for this couple and that they chose me to take photos of their special day. I am thankful that I keep three clear umbrellas in my car. Lastly, I am thankful that I have a job that allows me to be a part of the most special moments in life in the most beautiful places.

Congratulations to Ashley and Dustin, and here’s to many more years of happy marriage!
